How to Create a Facebook Business Page for Ads

Every Facebook ad campaign requires a Facebook Page. Without one, you can't run ads, full stop. This guide walks through creating a Facebook Business Page from scratch, setting it up correctly for advertising, and connecting it to Meta Business Suite so your campaigns run without issue.

Step 1: Create Your Facebook Page

Go to facebook.com/pages/create while logged into your personal Facebook account. (Yes, you need a personal account. Meta requires it as the underlying identity layer.) Choose a page category: Business/Brand is correct for most advertisers.

Fill in your Page name (use your actual business name, this appears on every ad), category (pick the closest match; you can change it later), and description (2–3 sentences about what you do).

Upload a profile photo (your logo, 180×180px minimum) and cover photo (820×312px). These appear in your ads, so use professional assets, blurry logos get flagged by reviewers and erode trust with audiences.

Step 2: Complete Your Page Information

Before running ads, fill out every field in Page Settings:

  • Website URL, required for most ad objectives
  • Phone number, adds trust signals
  • Business hours, relevant for local/service businesses
  • Location, required for location-targeted campaigns
  • Username (@handle), keeps your Page URL clean and professional

An incomplete page raises red flags during ad review. Meta's systems score page quality, pages with missing information, no posts, and zero engagement are more likely to get ads rejected or accounts restricted.

Step 3: Publish 3–5 Organic Posts Before Running Ads

Don't launch ads on a brand-new page with zero content. Meta's algorithm and human reviewers look at page activity. A page with zero posts looks like it was created solely to run ads, which triggers stricter review.

Post 3–5 pieces of content before your first campaign: product photos, a short introduction post, or links to your website. These don't need to go viral, they just need to exist to establish that this is a legitimate business page.

Step 4: Connect to Meta Business Suite

Meta Business Suite (business.facebook.com) is where you manage your ad accounts, pixels, and team access. Connecting your Page to a Business account is required before running ads at any real scale.

  1. Go to business.facebook.com and create a Business account if you don't have one
  2. Click Settings → Pages → Add → Add a Page
  3. Search for your page by name and add it
  4. Confirm ownership (you'll receive a confirmation prompt)

Once connected, you can add team members with specific roles (Admin, Editor, Analyst), connect your pixel, and create ad accounts under the Business umbrella. This structure protects you, if a personal ad account gets restricted, your Business Suite accounts are separate.

Step 5: Create Your Ad Account

In Business Suite → Settings → Ad Accounts → Create New Ad Account. Set your time zone, currency, and billing information. Your Page needs to be associated with this ad account before you can run ads.

Important: Start with one ad account. New Business accounts are limited by default, you'll need to run a small test campaign and build spend history before Meta trusts you with higher spend limits or multiple accounts.

Step 6: Verify Your Business

Business verification unlocks higher spending limits and reduces the likelihood of account restrictions. Go to Business Suite → Security Center → Start Verification. You'll need:

  • Business legal name matching official documents
  • Phone number or website for domain verification
  • Official documents (business registration, tax ID, utility bill in business name)

Verification typically takes 2–5 business days. It's worth doing before scaling, verified businesses face fewer ad restrictions and get faster ad review times.

Common Mistakes That Get Pages Restricted

  • Page name doesn't match website/brand: Use your exact business name, not a keyword-stuffed variant
  • Multiple pages for the same business: Meta flags this as suspicious; stick to one Page per business
  • Running ads immediately on a new page: Warm up the page with organic posts first
  • No profile picture or cover photo: Looks untrustworthy to reviewers
  • Mismatched landing page: Your ad destination must match what your Page/business claims to offer
  • Skipping 2FA: Enable two-factor authentication on your personal account, compromised accounts lead to compromised Pages

Instagram Account Connection (Optional but Recommended)

If you run Instagram ads (which appear in Meta's ad placements automatically), connect your Instagram account via Business Suite → Accounts → Instagram accounts → Add. Without this, your Facebook Page identity shows on Instagram placements, which looks unprofessional if your Facebook Page name doesn't match your Instagram brand.
